During World War 2 many pilots and crews flying B-17 Flying Fortress bombers over Europe at 30,000 feet altitude reported weird unidentified objects joining them in formation for a few minutes and then disappearing. What they were was never explained and they were given the nickname, "FOO fighters."
Long ago I was teaching Radiological Defense Engineering at the U.S. Air Force Tactical Air Command Headquarters at Langley Air Force Base, Virginia. One of my students was a young Royal Air Force officer named, Fairleigh Wright. We became good friends and have corressponded frequently over the years. After leaving the Royal Air Force, Fairleigh became a pilot with British Airways and is now one of their senior Captains flying the Concorde SST on the London - New York - London route.
I recently received the following e-mail from Captain Wright with the attached graphics files illustrated below. Sometimes facts are stranger than fiction.
Last week when flying the British Airways Concorde from New York's Kennedy International Airport to London I had a rather unworldy experience I would like to share with you. We were cruising at mach 2 at 60,000 feet altitude when two weird white blobs joined us in formation on the left and right sides.
I had a 35 mm Leica camera with fine grain color film in my flight bag and quickly snapped two pictures of the white blobs on each side of us. They appeared to be about 100 meters distant on each side. The next day I took the film over to the Royal Air Force Photogrammetry Laboratory where an old friend of mine is the Commanding Officer and told him what I had photographed. He said that they would develop the film and get back to me in a few days. This lab has some highly classified instrumentation and computer programs that can display a man walking on the ground when photographed from a GEO, geosynchronous earth orbit, satellite at up to 35,800 kilometers altitude. My friend called me two days ago and in an excited voice invited me over to the lab. One of their artists had painted a computer picture of my Concorde and the two white blobs in formation with me.

I told my Wing Commander friend that the picture was essentially correct. He then said to me, "hold your breath, Fairleigh" and showed me the two photos that were enhanced by his photogrammetry technicians.
His Chief Spectroscopy Technician said that the yellow, brown and red tiles appeared to be silicon dioxide heat ablative tiles that had reentered a highly oxygen rich atmosphere at mach 100+ velocity pointed head first.

Robert, do I believe in alien corkscrew spacecraft cork screwing their way through the time/space continuum from distant galaxies? I do NOT know.
Let me know what you think.
Best wishes my friend, Fairleigh4/1/00
